Antigua offers great duty-free shopping for visitors from all over the world. In the capital, St. John's, there are two main shopping areas to discover: Heritage Quay and Redcliffe Quay. The historic surroundings of Redcliffe Quay, a former warehouses site formerly the center of the sugar and coffee trade with Europe, makes for a nice shopping stroll, with its lovely gingerbread houses, and its rebuilt Georgian architecture surrounded by shady trees. |
On Redcliffe Quay, you will find lovely little shops with handicrafts, pottery, as well as fine boutiques, some offering genious Antiguan creations. This is the right place to buy some local arts and crafts. Charming little restaurants and a wine bar invite to relax under the trees when you get tired of shopping. |
Heritage Quay offers a quite different atmosphere. A pedestrian street, flanked by boutiques on both sides leads to the impressive cruise ship pier. A shopping mall on the first floor awaits you with fashion boutiques, sports articles, souvenirs, tobacco and cigar shops and much more. |
Several jewellery shops are located on Heritage Quay. They propose to you famous international brands of jewellery and watches at very affordable, of course duty-free prices. European perfumes and cosmetics, as well as clothes from international couturiers are also available at excellent prices. Take time to relax under the clocktower, in one of the nice cafés and bars while watching the people come and go between the impressive cruise ships. Between Heritage and Redcliffe Quay, look for t-shirts and local crafts at the lovely painted vendor's mall! |
You will have many more opportunities to shop while touring the island. Tour the vendor's mall and boutiques in English Harbour and Nelson's Dockyard and Jolly Harbour. Look for art by famous local artists in Harmony Hall. And don't worry if at the end, you forgot a gift for family and friends: There are still plenty of duty-free shops at the airport where you can get that lovely little present while waiting for your plane. |
