You can chose between our proposed routes, depending on what activities you are most interested in. Please, check out our choice of tours by clicking on "Art/Events/Lifestyle" > "Excursions" in Antigua & Barbuda.
Yachting
Among the many activities which can be practiced in Antigua & Barbuda, yachting and boating are probably some of the most exciting. Antigua is proud of being one of the greatest destinations in the world for yachting, sailing and boating; this isn't surprising, since our several well equipped marinas and anchorages are located in absolute mesmerizing and pristine surroundings. Just imagine yourself sailing into historic Nelson's Dockyard, dreaming that you just came back from a naval battle against the French! Thanks to the excellent facilities and services offered in our marinas, thousands of "boat people" dock every year along our coasts. Some are attracted by our famous regattas and Boat Show. Others can't wait to charter a yacht and sail around our islands. For more information about our yachting and boating events, please go to "Art/Events/Lifestyle.
From mega yachts for the very rich and famous, to romantic sailing boats for nature lovers and power boats for speed amateurs: everything is available, the choice is yours. You can use mooring buoys in deserted coves or anchor in our beautiful marinas, where dry land expects you with its shops, restaurants, bars and parties. The main marinas are located at English and Falmouth Harbour in the South, as well as at Jolly Harbour more in the North.
Diving and snorkeling
Diving and snorkeling are among the most enticing sports practiced in the Caribbean, and Antigua & Barbuda have some of the most exciting dive sites. Dive shops all along the coast will take you in comfortable dive boats to breathtaking walls and underwater beds, covered with sponges and corals and inhabited by colorful exotic fish. Just remember: "Take only photos, leave only bubbles!"
Most of the known water sports can be practiced on Antigua's coasts: Water skiing, para sailing, windsurfing, jet skiing are just a few of them. We leave it to you to discover them all. But if you think that practicing sports doesn't always mean to get wet, there is plenty more to do on dry land.
Horse riding
Horses have been brought to Antigua by the British and remain an old time favorite on the island. You will meet them everywhere: on mountainous trails, in tranquil and scenic valleys and on powdery white beaches. You can join an excursion with one of the several riding stables, or simply hire a horse on your own (if you are qualified, of course!) Horse riding is actually a serious business in Antigua, so make sure you deal with a serious riding stable, especially if you intent to take lessons.
Golf
Where else can you enjoy a relaxing activity between the turquoise sea and the blue sky? We suggest, you try our verdant and perfectly landscaped golf courses. Amidst tropical gardens and green hills, visitors will find the most sophisticated equipment in order to practice their favorite sport. If you like lofty hills, head for the Cedar Valley Golf Club at the North of Antigua, where a very challenging 18-hole par 69 course is waiting for you.
If you prefer the proximity of the sea, Jolly Harbour offers its established 18-hole par 71 championship golf course, designed by the architect Karl Litton of Florida. There is also a 9-hole course at the exclusive K-Club in Barbuda. The yearly Antigua Open Golf Tournament usually takes place at the Cedar Valley Club in November.
Tennis
If you stay in one of our great resorts, you will probably want to use their own tennis courts. If you like to play outside of your hotel, the most complete tennis installations are located at the Jolly Harbour Sports Center. There you can choose between four floodlit tennis courts, two with clay and two with astro turf. In English Harbour, there is a club two tennis and two squash courts with flood light. World class tennis player can be admired during the Annual Tennis Week usually held in May.
Hiking and birdwatching
If you only want to use your own legs, there are many peaceful and challenging hiking trails everywhere in Antigua. Several of them are located on the South of the island, for instance on Shirley Heights and on Fig Tree Drive. If you like bird watching, Long Island, Great Bird Island, Barbuda and our many ponds will keep you happy. Whatever you do: there are numerous fitness centers, on hotel premises or elsewhere, to keep you in shape. Walk to the beach bar and start making plans!
